Roundup: The Roundup is upon us. Jeff and his committee have done a wonderful job. Thank you to everyone who has participated to make this a success. Admission and raffle ticket sales have been coming in slowly. No matter how great the auction items are, we need people here to bid on them! Sell tickets to your friends, families, and neighbors. There’s still time. We still need volunteers for kitchen help the night of Roundup. The more volunteers we have, the less time you have to spend in the kitchen! I hope to see you there on Saturday night.
EDP Door Codes: Everyone should have received their door code for the gym door. They were given out at Parent/Teacher conferences. You will need it to get into the gym to pick your children up from EDP. Basketball coaches – your codes have also been programmed to let yopu in for basketball practices.
Middle School Dance (7th & 8th Grades): Friday there is a dance at St. Francis Xavier School. Remember to bring your student ID card!
THANK YOU! – Thank you to all the volunteers who filled in for lunch duty the last couple of weeks. Your help was appreciated by everyone at OLOL School.
Progress Reports: Mid-quarter progress reports will be going home in next week’s envelopes. If you have concerns, please contact your child’s teacher by e-mail. They should all be working now although Mrs. Terrill is still having some problems. If you don’t think the teachers are receiving your e-mails, you can always CC me when you send them. I’ll make sure they are delivered.
Friday Dismissal: People are still calling the office about Friday dismissals. We have been putting all the dismissal times on the calendar so that everyone (especially 7th & 8th grade parents) know what time their children are being dismissed. Please post the calendar in a place where you will be able to check it frequently. This week K – 6 & 8th grades dismiss at 12:30. 7th grade dismisses at 1:10.
Service Project: Pope Benedict has dedicated this special Jubilee year to St. Paul. In his homily for First Vespers for the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul in 2007, Pope Benedict said:
“As in early times, today too, Christ needs apostles ready to sacrifice
themselves. He needs witnesses and martyrs like St. Paul.
“Paul, a former violent persecutor of Christians, when he fell to the ground
dazzled by the divine light on the road to Damascus, did not hesitate to change
sides to the Crucified One and followed him without second thoughts. He lived
and worked for Christ, for him he suffered and died. How timely his example is
today!
“And for this very reason I am pleased to announce officially that we shall
be dedicating a special Jubilee Year to the Apostle Paul from 28 June 2008 to
29 June 2009, on the occasion of the bi-millennium of his birth, which
historians have placed between the years 7 and 10 A.D.”
This year we are going to follow in the footsteps of St. Paul by supporting
the Heifer International Foundation.
This foundation suggests gifts of livestock and training that are used
to help families achieve self-reliance.
“They provide a steady supply of nutrition in the form of products like
milk and eggs …and a dependable source of income from the sale of products like
wool, honey and produce.”
Each class will be selecting a way in which to give witness by helping
others; not merely by giving money, but by helping people in underdeveloped
countries to become self-sufficient.
We are asking that you ask your children to earn their donations, thus
making the project more meaningful to them.
This project will begin December 1st and continue until February
1st.
Centre Student Information System: We are making progress with the Centre program. The teachers are using it for their grades and tracking assignments and should be able to print their progress reports (Grades 4 – 8). We are hoping to have parent access up and running after Christmas (in time for third quarter). I will keep you posted. If any of you have students at Judge and are still experiencing problems accessing Power School for those reports, please send me an e-mail and I will check it out for you.
REMINDER: Check your calendars for the Thanksgiving schedule. There will be no school on the 26th, 27th, & 28th. There will be 12:30 dismissal for all grades but NO EDP on Tuesday, November 25th.
