Thank you: Last week I neglected to say a BIG thank you to all the volunteers who helped get the school building ready for the first day. The paint and supplies were donated and Keller Williams organized the painting project. Many of our own parents came to help with the prep work and the painting which took longer than expected. It was touch and go for a while, but many long hours got the job done and for that I thank you all. I have enclosed a flyer with the names of the businesses who donated to the project and I would appreciate it if you would consider them first when you need a service they provide. Don’t forget to tell them you are from Our Lady of Lourdes and thank them.

Calendars: The September calendar is enclosed. Please post it where you can refer to it.

Tag Days: On the calendar you will see an entry for “Tag Day”. This is a day when the students may pay $1.00 to wear their own clothes. Students not wanting to pay the dollar must come in their uniform. Students are allowed to wear jeans and sneakers of their own choosing (still NO wheelies) on Tag Days. Clothing is still to be appropriate for school. Tag Days will have color or other themes. This one is to wear something red for apples, a symbol often used for the beginning of school.

School Lunches: The September lunch count sheet is enclosed in this envelope. Some of you had questions about the hot lunch program.

Non-violence Program: Holy Cross Ministries is focusing on non-violence this year. HCM has received a grant to bring in a speaker for a presentation on this topic. Jodee Blanco, the day’s speaker, is the author of The New York Times bestseller Please Stop Laughing at Me…One Woman’s Inspirational Story and the new book Please Stop Laughing at Us …One Survivor’s Extraordinary Quest to Prevent School Bullying. The presentation is sure to be of interest to the students. Parents (only) are welcome to see the program that evening.

Sally Foster: The Sally Foster fundraiser is under way. Thank you for your support. I’m looking forward to my lunch with the top 5 sellers.

Grandparents’ Day: Don’t forget to send in your registration slip for Grandparents’ Day by September 3rd.

Bulldog Boogie: Make sure to read the enclosed flyer for the Bulldog (Broadway) Boogie. This event is always a lot of fun for the students who participate.

Uniforms: We still seem to be getting a variety of non-uniform clothing. Remember that all students must be in the proper school uniform by October 1st. All shirts (except the white oxford), sweaters, and gym clothing must have the school logo on them. Last year’s Dennis uniforms and gym uniforms with logos may still be worn. Since you haven’t received your Parent/Student handbooks yet, I have reproduced the section on uniforms.

DRESS CODE POLICY

At Our lady of Lourdes School students shall be dressed appropriately at all times. They are required to be in complete uniform every day. Exceptions are special occasions and official meeting days of Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Please ensure that your child maintains a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance and comes in the complete organization uniform. If, for any reason, your child is not wearing the school uniform, please send a written explanation to the teacher.

Our Lady of Lourdes School takes pride in the appearance of our students. We believe in a uniform policy for the following reasons:

1. It allows the student to focus on academics rather than on dress.

2. It helps to eliminate competition for expensive and/or fad clothing.

3. It helps the student when getting ready for school in the morning.

It is important for all individuals in the school community to present a good appearance. This shows respect for each other and for one’s self. Pride in one’s appearance is important in academic and professional settings. The dress code will be enforced during school hours and while on school property and may be enforced for any school sponsored or school related event. Interpretation of the dress code will be at the discretion of the principal.
